Since 2020, the Town of Sidney has celebrated Tree Appreciation Day each September by partnering with community members to plant trees in one of its public parks. Saplings are also given away to members of the public to plant on private property.
2026 Tree Appreciation Day
Tree Appreciation Day will be held on the Calvin Avenue Multi-Use Path across from Rathdown Park on September 26, 2026.
The event will be hosted by the Greater Victoria Green Team and the Town of Sidney. Volunteers will help plant trees and remove invasive species along this newly upgraded pathway.
Last year, the wood-chip path connecting the Lochside Regional Trail to Calvin Avenue was paved and lit to make it accessible to mobility devices and more suitable for cyclists. Now volunteers will help it become a more inviting greenspace and pathway.
Event Details:
- Saturday September 26 from 9:45am. to 1:00pm
- Calvin Pathway, meeting at the south end of Rathdown Park
- Tools, gloves, safety gear, instruction, environmental education, snacks, and refreshments will be provided.
- No experience is neccesary. All ages and abilities are welcome.
- Bring weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, and a reusable water bottle.
- Register online in advance.
